perhaps it's the promise of fall, perhaps it is being in love with san diego (though missing real fall) but i have been having overwhelming feelings of elation lately.
one such event of emotion occurred yesterday at about 7:45 p.m. after having spent several hours in the children's library working on various designs and projects etc., i emerged from the library at dusk. it smelled fall-ish outside, my arm was full of colorful and wonderful books which i got for free, and as i walked down the steps to my car, i was almost overtaken with this feeling in my chest, my heart area. my heart was happy. content.
another occured yesterday as i waited for lunch at point loma seafoods. i like that place because it is good, fresh, local, simple seafood. it is run by honest people who work hard. it is what is still good about america. 50 feet from the docks where the fisherman off-load, it is as fresh as seafood gets. after i ordered (smoked fish cocktail and fresh spicy tuna) i stood in a corner and watched the hustle and bustle of the market. i watched real people working hard. more importantly, i watched seafood transaction, and it reminded me of cape may, of my grandfather, and all of my family really, and fits of nostalgia overcame me. in that moment, i felt it. an elation that almost made me lightheaded.
these feelings of happiness have been happening a lot lately. it is good. it is very good.

june gloom
possibly the most overused phrase in san diego, yet the most accurate. "june gloom." very very real. as well as "may gray." so funny how we like to complain about this mild interruption to what is otherwise year-round fabulous weather.
anyway, i'm sitting at the table waiting for the june gloom to burn off so that i can enjoy almost july!
